You think you know it all and that you can put everything and everybody in little boxes with a nice tag on it don’t you? You may think for instance that because scruffy vocalist Tomas Eriksson used to be the drummer of one of Sweden earliest black/death act Grotesque, along future At The Gates ‘stars’ Tomas ‘Tompa’ Lindberg and Alf Svensson, he should have stayed behind his drumkit blasting shit in the name of Satan right? Or that coming from the Gothenburg, the capital of Swedish melodic death-metal, his latest band was supposed to full of sugary melodies for fashion kids who’ve bought their first metal t-shit last week? Yeah, I’m sure you were oh so ready to bet on the fact that DoomDogs were just the latest addition to the already long line of Black Sabbath worshippers who are just happy building a so-called career on ripping “Paranoid” riff over and over again. Well, think again baby...
DoomDogs are heavy. And we mean HEAVY, as if you could feel the earth crumbling under your feet every time they strike a chord. It’s doom, it’s stoner, it’s 70’s rock and it’s everything you want as long as it throws in the pot catchy melodic hooks and grooves like a motherfucker.
"Shan The Big Man" evokes “Motörhead and Black Sabbath having a car wreck” while doom-metal.com would rather talk about “a mid-paced version of slightly ‘uglified’ stoner/doom with crust and doomcore-ish elements, sort of like mixing Crowbar and a slowed down Kyuss with Neurosis and Cult of Luna”.
Whatever your description is, get ready to be stomped upon. Because although it took guitar player and main composer Christer ‘Chris the Riff’ Cuñat two full years to finally find the proper line-up he’d been looking after he formed the band in 2006, now that they’re on the run, they ain’t gonna stop.
Having recorded this self-titled six songs debut in a vintage analog studio (24 tracks, 2 inches tape, the whole nine yards), they’re already plotting their next move. And wherever they’ll be performing, they’re ready to rock the house because, as the Dogs put it themselves, “we want our gigs to be one hell of a party, regardless whether there are 30 or 30,000 people in the audience.
